Glee in Emmy Magazine
The cast of Glee is featured on the cover of Emmy magazine, the “For Your Consideration” issue. They also get a weird photo spread and some interview time.
First, the interview bits:
“Janey Lynch: “There’s a real person beneath the bravado who wants to be accepted and loved although she would never show that. In her narcissistic view of the world, everything’s about one-upping and victory. I had an acting teacher in college we called the Dragon Lady. She taught through shame and humiliation, and when she walked down the hall, people would part like the Red Sea.”
Lea Michele: “The minute I read Rachel Berry, I felt such a connection to her. Her drive and passion for singing and performing – that’s my therapy in life. It helps me learn who I am. Rachel’s on that same journey.”
Chris Colfer [on mastering Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”]: “Being told to dance one of the most iconic dances in pop-culture when you can barely tap your shoes? Yes I was proud of myself.”
Glee creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy: “The message is about inclusion. The show’s about having a voice, and singing loud and proud. It’s about the power of possibility.”
Are we out on a limb thinking it’s weird that the awards aren’t enough; that there also have to be magazines about the awards? God bless the entertainment industry, where there’s no such thing as too much navel-gazing.
Anyway, boy those quotes sure make this Glee sound like a fun show! Kinda weird how the pictures tell a different story. Check out these Tales From the Crypt photos:
Okay, first: Why the hell does everyone look so pissed off? You’d think this was the cast of The Wire or Mad Men what with all the scowling and meaningful staring. You’d never know this was the cast that performed “Run Joey Run” to great comedic effect.
Second: what’s with the bluish cast and the heavy Photoshopping? They look like cold mannequins. This is the cast of the biggest feel-good TV hit to come along in years and they all look vaguely suicidal. Weird.
