The Magic of Fashion Editorials

Because we’re, as one commenter noted, “hardcore,” we’re still looking at the latest issue of Vogue China. Specifically, an editorial entitled “The Magic of Colors.”

We thought it would be fun and a little educational to see what fashion editors and stylists do with the clothes when they take them off the runway and put them in front of a photographer. There’s a real artistry in the ability to look at what the designer offered and interpret it not only by coming up with a theme and a setting for the shoot, but also by matching them to a model and pairing them with pieces from other designers and other collections.

There’s a reason why designers kiss the asses of the powerful editors. It’s because ultimately, the editors are the gateway to the public. When you compare the number of people who actually see the clothes on the runway to the much, much larger group of people who see them in a fashion magazine, it becomes clear just how powerful an editor is. When you compare the runway shots to the editorial shots, it also becomes clear that the editors, photographers and stylists who make it happen are just as crucial (and in some cases, just as creative) as the designers themselves.
